“I’d rather believe in reincarnation than hell. The idea of an afterlife is much more tolerable when returning is an option”
A real story, very emotional, which makes you ask questions about faith and religion. From the beginning, we meet Esty, a young Hasidic Jewish that means an ultra-orthodox religious group, which respects a lot of old traditions.
We follow 2 storylines. The first one follows Esty’s departure from her community in Brooklyn, New York to Berlin to start a new life. The second one is about the reasons why the protagonist decided to leave. We also see a lot of traditional Hasidic events such as a wedding, and everyday life.
The main actress has a great performance, which will excite you for sure. Unfortunately, this is a TV series, which is pretty hard to watch. Don’t get me wrong, I’d give it 4/5, but some moments pull the series down. Maybe it just seemed to me, but I wanted to mention this.
The show doesn’t stand out with anything else, I’d say the only reason you should watch this mini-series is the story, which should be known by as many people as possible. I didn’t know almost anything about Hasidic Jewish and this production makes you look for information after it’s over, which is a great thing. For example, 140.000 people live like this all over the world.
I hope you’ll watch it, there are only 4 episodes, so you have no excuse. Stay safe and enjoy it!
