“The complexity and the gray lie not in the truth, but what you do with the truth one you have it.”
Similar to an Agatha Christie’s novel, Knives Out, puts you in the middle of the action as a detective, who’s trying to solve the crime of a very rich, old man. This person is the head of the family, a pretty numerous one. At the beginning of the film, you’ll meet all these people, and you might feel overwhelmed by all the names, but don’t worry, everything will become clearer along the way.
So, the story begins with the discovery of the old man’s body in the attic. After that, the police conduct an investigation, although all the evidence shows a suicide. The detective, Benoit Blanc (played by 007 – Daniel Craig), doesn’t look as good as Christie’s Hercule Poirot, but he doesn’t back down after discovering a lot of family secrets. Eventually, you’ll wonder if the old man was killed or committed suicide, and you’ll be surprised in the end. That’s all I’m gonna tell you.
Nothing is amazing on the acting part, but that doesn’t mean the actors aren’t good. They are, but you don’t focus on them as much as on the story, which is the best thing about this film. I’d say, Ana de Armas’s character is one of my favorites. I don’t know how you couldn’t like her, you’ll know why when you’ll watch the movie.
Rian Johnson did a great job with his unique way to film a movie, which fits wonderful with this one. He also wrote the screenplay, which was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars. The soundtrack is an important way to keep the suspense, and this one is also pretty good.
At the end of the day, Knives Out is a great detective movie. If you like this subgenre, filled with crime and mystery, you have to watch this one. But I’d also recommend this to anyone because of the great original story, which will show you how a detective story should be written. Stay safe and enjoy it!
